Nothing to it really, get some basic information on what the four Cs stands for. Check out what your girlfriend might like or not like in terms of designs and the stone size, gold type, and all that. A good way to find out about this is to go shopping with her leisurely in the mall spread out over a few times, and casually window browse with her to see what she will say or comment on there. Take mental notes.
On your own, start going to various jewelry retails and start gathering information on how diamonds are priced according to their gradings, weight, cut, colour, metal types, trend of the season, best seller, engraving costs, and all that.
Talk to your people! Who are they? It could be your mother, aunt, someone whom you can trust not to spill the beans!
